What is Beauty Without Cruelty?

Beauty Without Cruelty was so named, because when it was founded in England in 1963, they were ahead of the times. They were one of the first to create products that were not tested on animals, did not use animal bi-products, etc. All of their products have always been vegan, and though one of the founders, Katherine Long, passed on, these products reached the US in 1989. Even through years of expansion and such, Beauty Without Cruelty has remained true to their original roots. Unlike some other companies, refusing to use animals is not just a fashion statement or a flavor of the month.

Ingredients and Mechanism of Action:

Beauty Without Cruelty ingredients include vitamin c, alpha hydroxy acids, and coenzyme Q10 in most products, though full ingredients lists are not provided. When it comes to products like foundations, lipstick, moisturizers, etc, they have a great concept going. But in terms of wrinkle treatments, the most effective and frankly the only proven wrinkle fighting ingredients cannot be found in plant sources at this time. It's an unfortunate fact of these things. The ingredients they do focus on are antioxidants, but nothing more.

Overall Impression of Beauty Without Cruelty:

We have a degree of respect for a company that really sticks to their guns about one particular issue, one particular way of working. If they would provide a full ingredients list, we would be more impressed granted. But despite the fact that they lack the important wrinkle fighting ingredients, we are impressed that they did not fold and give away their original morals at that time. We wouldn't suggest buying wrinkle care products from them. But in terms of cosmetics such as foundations, lipsticks, and eye shadows, we see no reason not to.
