What is Botox?

For the most part, everybody has heard of botox at one time or another. It is a form of the poison botulism that freezes the muscles, but in most cases does not kill the user. It has been popularly used throughout the world, and especially in Hollywood and the Hamptons. It has also been used to treat migraines and TMJ. But the manufacturer, Allergan, has warned against versions not created by them. Some doctors buy a cheaper version that has more harmful chemicals, and users have experienced a whole array of extra side effects. But the procedure has to be repeated approximately every 4 months.

Price:Varies

Ingredients and Mechanism of Action:

The only ingredient found in the original botox is botulism. Botulism is a serious poison that freezes the muscles as well as the diaphragm and kills its victims. But Botox claims to use such a small amount that it could not have the more severe effects. Still, users write into Allergan and other outlets every day to complain of side effects such as blank looks, expressionless, plastic looks, facial paralysis, redness, swelling, droopy eyelids, respiratory failure, and death in apparently rare cases.

Overall Impression of Botox:

Quite a few people look at Botox, assuming it must be safe and the results are great, because it is approved by the FDA. Being approved by the FDA doesn't mean much for safety. There are plenty of things that the FDA has approved that were banned in the UK, and then again there are things that were banned in the UK, but were never actually approved by the FDA in the first place and remain unapproved. Botox has quite a few side effects, and though used across the world, is not worth those risks. There are a number of people who cannot reverse the side effects, and some who only got a taste of what could happen and subsequently swore it off. The best route to take however is to learn from other people's experiences.
